PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is looking good for Xbox One port

Developer Brendan Greene has confirmed that the possibility of bringing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds to Xbox One and PS4 is being investigated.

"We have a team working already on looking to port it to at least the Xbox One," Greene told BusinessInsider. "We’re looking at both consoles of course, but we have no time frame for both.”

The game is currently in Early Access on Steam, where it has now sold over 2m copies in a little over a month. Unusually, it is expected to leave Early Access as early as September or October.

"Ports to consoles isn’t that hard," Greene added. [Unreal Engine 4] is a great engine to use for multiplatform. We have a great producer and he can manage a lot of stuff. We have the resources to focus on getting the PC version done, but also look at how quickly we can bring it to other platforms."

Speaking separately to Gamasutra, Greene also confirmed that developer Bluehole will look to add cosmetic microtransactions to the game, although not until it leaves Early Access.

For me anything we do with the marketplace should be done to create a valuable economy," he said. "We’re not doing monetization during early access, it’ll be afterwards. So we’ll have keys to open crates to make it simple. But we’ll also try to have rarity, so by opening a crate you can get a skin that’s worth 10 or $20.

"I don’t want to encourage gambling. I’m very happy now Steam has put it in their terms that ‘you cannot use this for gambling,’ but I still believe the skin economy is a good thing to have in a game. Because it’s monetization for us, but it also creates an economy for clothing items."
