The Escapists 2 to break into retail this summer thanks to Sold Out and Team17

Boxed specialist Sold Out is partnering with Team17 to bring The Escapists 2 to retail, the publisher has announced.

Arriving on shop shelves this summer, The Escapists 2 will receive a boxed release for PS4 and Xbox One, but not for Nintendo Switch (at least at time of writing). This is possibly due to the much-rumoured higher manufacturing costs, making physical Switch releases more expensive than their console counterparts.

An exact release date has yet to be revealed, but the game is currently in development at Team17’s internal Wakefield studio following the acquisition of The Escapists’ developer Mouldy Toof Studios last year.

For the first time, The Escapists 2 will offer online, drop-in/drop-out multiplayer for up to four players in both co-op and versus modes, and it will also feature character customisation options, a new crafting system and new methods of escape. It will also have a brand-new art style.

Garry Williams, CEO of Sold Out Sales & Marketing Limited said: We’re delighted Team17 has chosen to partner with Sold Out for the retail release of The Escapists 2, and we’re honoured to deliver another indie blockbuster from Team17’s Games Label. Our international sales and distribution network will be key to delivering another success story for one of our most valued partners.”

The first Escapists game originally launched in 2015 on PC and Xbox One, and has since sold over 4m copies. It also reached No.1 on the Apple Store in over 18 countries following its recent iOS release earlier this year.
