PC gaming giant Valve has revealed more about its long-awaited Steam Machines, including a new product that will add streaming functionality.
Steam Link will be a separate piece of hardware that enables users to stream all Steam content from their PC or Steam Machine to any room in the house via your home network. It will support 1080p at 60Hz with low latency.
The new product will launch in November for $49.99, with a Steam Controller thrown in for an additional $49.99 in the US. Valve will release worldwide pricing closer to launch.
The Steam Machines themselves will finally arrive in November as well, starting with models from Valve partners Alienware, Falcon Northwest and more than a dozen other firms.
According to a Valve release, “Steam Machines will start at the same price point as games consoles, with higher performance” – essentially throwing down the gauntlet against Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Alienware and Falcon Northwest’s Steam Machines will be showcased at GDC this week. Epic Games will also demonstrate the new Unreal Tournament on the latter device and running on a 4K monitor.
