Peripheral company Mad Catz teams up with VIP UK for UK distribution

Peripherals company Mad Catz has announced it is partnering with VIP UK to distribute its products throughout the UK.

The UK’s “leading independent technology distributor”, VIP UK will be bringing Mad Catz hardware such as mice, headsets, keyboards and gaming surfaces to UK gamers. The agreement commenced on April 1st, 2019.

“We’re thrilled to be working alongside VIP UK in bringing our new range of Mad Catz hardware to gamers across the UK,” said Selena Chang, director of sales and operations for Mad Catz Global Limited. “The United Kingdom has always been a key territory for Mad Catz, with the passionate gamers across the region, vocally asking us for distribution updates on a daily basis. We couldn’t be happier to finally answer the call and begin shipping our market leading hardware to our fans across the UK.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to add Mad Catz to our gaming portfolio,” added Greg Michell, Gaming Product Manager at VIP UK. “The brand is highly regarded amongst the UK gaming community and products.”

Mad Catz was one of the most recognisable names in games peripherals. Its history stretched right back to 1989 and incorporated other well-known brands such as GameShark, Joytech, Saitek, and Tritton. It sold peripherals for practically every console, including every generation of PlayStation to date. The company also made the popular Fightstick line of controllers with an official licence from Capcom for serious Street Fighter competitors, as well as guitar controllers in huge numbers for Rock Band 3.

Then in 2016, however, the company’s fortunes changed. Mad Catz reported huge losses, was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange in March 2017, and ceased operations soon after, filing for bankruptcy and liquidating its assets.

However, the third party peripheral giant made a triumphant return at CES 2018. “We couldn’t be more excited than to begin 2018 by announcing the return of Mad Catz to the global gaming arena. Mad Catz has been a permanent fixture in gaming for almost three decades and we firmly believe it’s best days lie ahead,” said Chang at the time.
