PUBG is getting a Ruger Mini-14 in next week’s update

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be getting a Ruger Mini-14 in its update next week.

When we spoke to Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Greene at Gamescom last week, he said the next update would have not one but two new weapons, and they’d be in the map instead of in care packages. While it’s not been revealed if a second weapon is coming, we can go ahead and assume from Greene’s comments at Gamescom that it won’t be a weapon locked into the game’s crates.

Let’s talk weapon specifics. The Mini-14 is a semi-automatic rifle that can be customised to fire a wide variety of ammunition, although it usually fires 5.56 rounds. Assuming this is the case, expect to see this as a lightweight sniper rifle. The skeleton stock in this photo also indicates it perhaps won’t take a cheekrest attachment. Most versions of the Ruger Mini-14 also have an integrated flash hider. Assuming this is the case, this sniper won’t be able to mount a suppressor which could open the door for it being a bit more widespread than most of the other sniper rifles, although it’s crucial to note that all of my in-game weapons thinking is largely just guesswork based on its real world presence.

It’s easy to imagine the gun fitting into a role similar to the SKS, although with less damage and, hopefully, a higher bullet velocity to give it a unique role as a marksman’s rifle with less need to lead your targets. Again however, just wishful thinking.

The update will also add foggy weather to the pool of potential weather conditions, first-person leaderboards, and various other small fixes.
