Betway has been announced as the Official Betting Partner for ESL One Cologne, and will be providing live odds and other probability based shenanigans on the game’s live broadcasts.
It’s a big deal for the industry, as live odds are generally viewed as an impossibility in esports betting, with betting often suspended as the winners and losers in any given match can change in a matter of minutes. If Betway can keep live odds running throughout the broadcast, it’ll be a real accomplishment for the company.
Betway’s Anthony Werkman said in a statement: “We are delighted to partner with ESL for Cologne, a landmark event of the CS:GO calendar. With CS:GO being the most competitive it has ever been, we can’t wait to see the world’s top teams battle it out.”
ESL Cologne kicks off tomorrow, with 16 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams scrapping for the lion’s share of a $250,000 prize pool. Betways will be running alongside the event to encourage betting on the tournament, although it’s yet to be seen how many spectators will get involved with the betting and how many will be tempted by Betway’s association.
SK Gaming is currently the favourite on Betways to triumph at ESL One Cologne, and will be looking to follow up two wins in recent weeks with a third at the German event, held at the LANXESS Arena.
