The nod has again been given for PS4 and PlayStation Vita to go on sale in China.
The Verge reports that both consoles will be released on March 20th at the price they were originally announced at – CY 2,899 (307) for the PS4 and CY 1,299 (138) for Vita. PS4 controllers will retail for CY 380 (40).
The machines were supposed to have arrived on January 11th but the launch was scrapped just days beforehand.
No official reason for the delay was ever given, although speculation suggested that it was the lack of a region lock, allowing Chinese gamers to import titles that had not been pre-vetted by the region’s famously strict authorities, that was to blame.
Games will only be approved for sale in the region providing they adhere to a strict set of criteria and do not include:
- Gambling-related content or game features
- Anything that violates China’s constitution
- Anything that threatens China’s national unity, sovereignty, or territorial integrity.
- Anything that harms the nation’s reputation, security, or interests.
- Anything that instigates racial/ethnic hatred, or harms ethnic traditions and cultures.
- Anything that violates China’s policy on religion by promoting cults or superstitions.
- Anything that promotes or incites obscenity, drug use, violence, or gambling.
- Anything that harms public ethics or China’s culture and traditions.
- Anything that insults, slanders, or violates the rights of others.
- Other content that violates the law
It remains to be seen whether the Chinese versions of PS4 and Vita will play titles from other regions.
