Sony Music becomes a video game publisher with new Unties indie label

Sony published games will appear on the Nintendo Switch thanks to a new indie publishing label.

Unties is a new label that has been setup by Sony Music Entertainment to publish new indie games to an increasingly popular Japanese market. While Sony is the owner of the label, there is no connection to Sony Computer Entertainment and its PlayStation brands with the label.

The new label will focus on Japanese indie games, trying to build on the similar popularity shared by the North American audience for these games and distribution on the Nintendo Switch is hoped will help push the momentum of the Japanese indie dev scene amongst players.

First up is Tiny Metal by AREA35 on November 21st. This will be followed by Last Standard by I From Japan, Merkava Avalanche by WinterCrownWorks and a re-release of Deemo by Rayark Inc. Games are being released on multiple platforms where possible including the PlayStation 4, however, there is no news yet on these titles being available internationally. Although Deemo is available in multiple languages and is a PlayStation VR compatible game so it may well come internationally.

"SME and their new publishing label Unties are working their pants off to uncover new talent in order to deliver a treasure trove of entertainment content, with a focus on games, to all consumers worldwide," said a press release provided by Unties, which will also handle PR for the multi-platform releases
