Clinton “Fear” Loomis retires from competitive Dota 2

Dota 2 legend and former TI champion Clinton “Fear” Loomis has retired from competitive play and will become a coach.

Fear has been a part of the Evil Geniuses Dota 2 team since 2011, winning The International in 2015 and many other top tier tournaments along the way. He has played as both the team’s position one and four player and has always been considered one of the best players in the world. He was also one of the co-stars of Valve’s Free to Play documentary.

Fear has said that health issues are the reason for his retirement. He famously missed The International 4 due to an arm injury, but has not fully recovered and does not wish to make the injury worse.

However Fear will stay on board with the EG organisation, and function as the team’s coach. The new EG roster is due to be announced tomorrow.

“Today, I’m announcing my retirement from competitive Dota,” said Fear. “I have been living my dream of being a professional gamer for over a decade now, and in that time I’ve accomplished each of the goals I placed for myself and for EG Dota. Now, I have to pursue a new goal – getting healthy. I still have a passion for Dota and for competing, but the long term health of my arm has to come first. Thank you all for your support.”
