Brianna Wu plans to run for congress

Game developer and pioneering equality campaigner Brianna Wu has said she is assembling a team in preparation for running for congress in 2018.

Wu confirmed to VentureBeat that while no campaign has officially been launched, she has every intention of running for the US House of Representatives.

While an image on Facebook posted on Wu’s page stated that the developer has ‘fought the alt-right and won’, Wu has said that her main agenda will be an economic one.

Here in Massachusetts, taxpayers spend an amazing amount on subsidizing education – particularly with infrastructure. But then students and entrepreneurs take that investment by our state to San Francisco or Austin,” she explained.

I think we can do a much better job keeping startups here in our state. Also, look at the game industry, which has been devastated here in Boston with the loss of Irrational and others.”

However, it is indeed the current political climate and the team being assembled by incoming president Donald Trump that has spurred Wu into action.

The reason I decided to run is simple: Trump is terrifying now in the White House," she added. "I can’t sit by making pleasant video game distractions for the next four years while the constitution is under assault. Hillary ran a brave marathon, and now it’s time for women of my generation to pick up that baton and commit to public service.

Wu was one of the most high-profile victims of the Gamergate hate campaign.
