Former CMO of Zynga, Doug Scott, joins Twitch

The former CMO of Zynga, Doug Scott, has joined Twitch, only a month after a substantial brand refresh for the firm.

During his three years at Zynga, Scott led global marketing for the firm, having previously worked at music startup BandPage in the same position, and as VP at mobile game publisher, DeNA.

In the past, he’s also worked as an advisor to YouTube Music and he’s served on the board for Matrixx Initiatives. Together, that makes his background a great fit for Twitch, which is starting to expand its horizons further afield than just games.

With more of a focus on personal vlogs, creative arts and other forms of entertainment, Twitch has increasingly grown its presence thanks to accomplishments such as one of its streamers winning the site its first Emmy

Besides video games, Twitch has also made deals with various US based sports leagues including the NBA and NFL to stream some games. It also launched its first game earlier this year in the form of Twitch Sings – a karaoke style game with a strong focus on live streaming.

“Doug has deep experience extending brands into new markets across games and entertainment industries, making him the ideal fit to lead Twitch’s marketing strategy,” said Twitch COO Sara Clemens. “As Twitch continues to grow, Doug will play an integral role in extending the brand beyond endemic audiences, supporting our incredible creators and expanding our presence in global markets.”

Given Doug Scott’s previous extensive experience in gaming, especially of the casual sort, it seems likely that more exclusive games are on their way to Twitch in the future, each with an eye squarely on streaming and social gaming.
