LulzSec hacker released on bail

The 18-year-old arrested last week for his alleged connection with hacking organisation Lulzsec has been released on bail.

Jake Davis – thought to be a key member of the group – appeared in a London court today. His offences include breaking the Computer Misuse Act 1990, the Serious Crime Act 2007 and the Criminal Law Act 1997.

Davis is believed to be LulzSec’s spokesperson known online as ‘Topiary’. He was released on bail today after agreeing to stay at his family home in Lincolnshire under curfew with no internet access. Davis allegedly hacked websites from his previous home inthe Shetland Islands.

LulzSec claims to have brought down several games company websites over the past few months. It has stolen user information from some including Nintendo’s and Bethesda’s. It also claimed responsibility for attacks on the CIA, The Sun, the NHS, the Sony Pictures website and more.

Davis’ lawyer argued that while there was evidence to suggest Davis was linked to LulzSec, there was no evidence that he had taken part in any of the hacks. Davis joins other arrested members of LulzSec and Anonymous including some from the UK, Spain, Turkey, the US and the Netherlands.

Earlier this year19-year-old Ryan Cleary was arrestedwho is also linked to the LulzSec hacks.Another16-year-old has been bailed who will return for questioning this month.

The LulzSec Twitter page has not been updated since Davis’ arrest.
