Steam introduces item trade-ins

Digital retailer Green Man Gaming has already dabbled with the idea of digital video game trade-ins before, but now online behemoth Valve is to try its luck in the sector.

Called the Steam Trading Beta, Valve’s latest idea is to allow users to trade-in various in-game items for other items from different games. Steam gifts or games that have been purchased but not added to the Games Library can also be traded.

Those wishing to dabble need only to go into the Steam settings menu and opt in to the beta.

Once in players will be able to trade with friends and can invite any user they like to trade with them.

It’s not quite a fully-fledged trade-in offer, but it’s certainly an interesting addition to the already complicated and changing landscape of digital games retail.
