Sony to cease PlayStation Now support for everything but the PS4 and PC

Sony have canned PlayStation Now support for several of their devices, meaning that their games streaming service is no longer available for anything except the PS4 and PC, saying that they’re looking to focus on better support for PlayStation Now’s two biggest platforms.

On August 15, 2017 the service will be discontinued on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation TV, Sony Blu-ray players, Samsung TVs, the PlayStation Vita and Sony Bravia TV models made between 2013 and 2016. If you’ve got a 2016 model Bravia TV, congratulations, your access to the service could be cut as soon as April 1.

This news doesn’t bring the end for PlayStation Now, and indeed Sony have indicated the move to support only these two platforms could mean improvements, new development and other progress in the future. However, it’s another blow to Sony’s unloved Vita and PlayStation TV. The Vita and PlayStation TV have both see a slow reduction in official support over the last few years, with the PlayStation TV no longer being shopped in the U.S and Europe.

Whether improvements to PlayStation Now will be seen or if this is the start of a slow wind-down process, it’s tough to tell. We’ll see in the coming months.
