BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Symbian development not stopped by iPhone

EA committed to smartphones

The iPhone may be stealing all the attention at the moment, but Electronic Arts has reaffirmed its commitment to develop games for the full range of smartphones.

It was one of Apple’s key partners in the ‘games on iPhone’ announcement earlier this month, but remains to develop not only platform-agnostic Java games but also native applications for Symbian, Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices.

"With smartphones becoming everyday devices, we are excited to offer the fun, and high quality of EA Mobile games to a growing and important worldwide market," said Travis Boatman, vice president of worldwide studios for EA Mobile.

"Offering top titles for the most popular smartphones, and our recent announcement that we will develop for the iPhone, reflect our focus and commitment to emerging platforms and markets."

But EA isn’t the only one with smartphones on its mind: it was exclusively revealed by Develop earlier this month that Microsoft’s XNA team was seriously considering expanding its framework to support Windows Mobile smartphones in a future release, allowing hobbyist programmers easier access to the platform.
