Craig NepentheZ” Douglas and Dylan Rigby have pleaded not guilty in the first criminal case involving YouTubers advertising unlawful gambling.
Last month NepentheZ and Rigby were charged with promoting a lottery and advertising unlawful gambling although the former was also charged with inviting children to gamble.
NepentheZ promoted the FUT galaxy site, owned by Rigby, on his YouTube channel telling his fans to gamble FIFA coins. This lead to the charges, with the Crown Prosecution Service accusing NepentheZ of intentionally advertising gambling to children.
On Friday 14th October both NepentheZ and Rigby pleaded not guilty to all offences, according to PCGamesN. The case has been adjourned until February 6th 2017, when the hearing will take place.
This case is the first of what will likely be quite a few similar cases. Over recent months there has been multiple scandals involving YouTubers and illegal gambling. The most high profile of which was Trevor ‘TmarTn’ Martin and Tom "ProSyndicate" Cassell advertising the CSGOLotto site, which they both owned.
In recent weeks Valve has come under fire for allowing gambling through its services. The Washington State Gambling Commission ordered the Seattle based developer to put a stop to all gambling done using its games.
