Call of Duty 4 downs chart opposition

Developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision have successfully outflanked the opposition this week as contemporary war sim Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare shoots straight to number one in the ChartTrack All Formats Top 40.

Despite arriving on four formats (Xbox 360, PC, PS3 and DS) it’s the 360 version that steals the show, claiming 63 per cent of the game’s overall UK sales, coming second only to Halo 3 in terms of weekly sell-through.

Activision’s shooter pips THQ’s WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008, which enters the charts in second spot, though it’s the PS2 version that rules the roost, claiming a 44 per cent slice of the sales.

Also in the Top Ten, EA’s The Simpsons Game clings to third spot, whilst last week’s number one, Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, which slips to fourth spot, one place ahead of EA’s footballing rival FIFA 08.

Elsewhere in the Top 40, new entries include Disney’s High School Musical: Sing It at number 12, LucasArts’ Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga in 17th and Sony’s PS3-exclsuvie platformer Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction at number 19.
