PlayStation is to renew its focus on mobile gaming.
Having not long ago abandoned what can probably fairly be described as its half-hearted PlayStation Mobile venture, Sony bozz Kaz Hirai has now told The Financial Times that the success of Pokemon Go has led to a change of heart at the platform holder.
Pokmon Go is a real game-changer,” he stated. I’m very interested in the fact that it has the potential to really change the way people move, literally. [It is an] innovative idea that’s going to lift all boats for the video game industry.”
Hirai says that Sony is restructuring its internal business as part of the shift.
[Mobile gaming] is something we are aggressively getting into. It’s quite a shift from being just a console-based business to being on mobile phones as well. It is a very important part of the Japanese market and therefore we’ve created a wholly-owned subsidiary that’s completely dedicated to mobile gaming. They’ll be coming out with titles.”In the same report the FT claims that PlayStation Neo is expected to launch next week, too. More about that console will be announced at Wednesday’s PlayStation briefing.
