MCV Awards 2016 Finalist Profiles: Sales Triumph

As we countdown to the MCV Awards 2016, which takes place in London on March 3rd, we profile each of the finalists for the Sales Triumph category

Dirt Rally – Codemasters

Codemasters took a big risk with a beloved brand and announced at the same time it was available in early access. They then delivered on their promise of releasing content right up to its full launch.

Farming Simulator – Koch Media

Enjoyed the All Formats No 2 chart position at launch, bettered only by The Witcher 3, which was released on the same day.

LEGO Dimensions – WB Games

The first toys-to-life title from WB Games generated week one UK sales of 37.7k starter packs, remaining in the UK All Formats Top 10 for eight weeks.

Minecraft: Story Mode – Avanquest

Literally billed by IGN as an ‘unlikely success’, Minecraft: Story Mode has nonetheless been a huge hit for Avanquest, listed as one of 2015’s Top 10 sellers on both PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Escapists – Team 17

The sandbox prison-escape game sold more than 1.25 million copies on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC and was the creation of solo indie developer and ex-roofer, Chris Davis.

The Witcher 3 – Bandai Namco

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from CD Projekt RED was released worldwide for PC, PS4 and Xbox One in May 2015 and is believed to have sold some six million units worldwide in just six weeks.

WWE 2K16 – 2K

WWE 2K16 saw 2K’s long-standing wrestling franchise return to its former glory, with the game a huge success – both commercially and critically.

Xbox Elite Controller – Microsoft

So successful that the Xbox UK team has been forced to reforecast expected sales as an order of magnitude greater than the original plan.

Amiibo – Nintendo UK

Amiibo experienced strong sales from launch despite early stock shortages, appealing to collectors, kids and families alike, with ranges encompassing Super Smash Bros, Splatoon, Animal Crossing and Super Mario.
