Fire Emblem: Three Houses significantly outsells Wolfenstein: Youngblood

The release of Fire Emblem: Three Houses shook up the UK weekly charts, with the Nintendo Switch title taking the top spot with a comfortable lead.

It’s also performed extremely well compared to previous entries in the series. It shifted 186 per cent more physical copies at launch than 2017 3DS title Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, sold 117.4 per cent more at launch than May 2016 3DS’ titles Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Conquest combined, and its launch sales were also up 82.5 per cent compared to Fire Emblem Awakening’s launch sales on 3DS in April 2013.

Meanwhile, Bethesda’s Wolfenstein: Youngblood had to settle for No.2. 51 per cent of its physical copies went to PS4, against 40 per cent for Xbox One, seven per cent for Switch and two per cent for PC. Launch sales for this spin-off were quite low compared the latest fully-fledged entry, 2017’s Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Youngblood sold 71 per cent less physical copies than The New Colossus, though we can safely assume it’s performed well digitally.

Last week’s No.1, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, was pushed down to No.3, with sales down 25 per cent week-on-week – though it was only about 1,000 copies from beating Wolfenstein to No.2.

There was another new entry in the Top 40 this week, but you had to look at the very bottom to find it: PQube’s Kill La Kill If debuted at… No.40.

Meanwhile, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, which debuted at No.2 last week, charted at No.6 with sales decreasing 59 per cent week-on-week.
