An internal SCEE memo has confirmed jobs cuts are being considered at SCE WS’ European offices.

â??Possibilityâ?? of SCE WS Europe job cuts

The letter, written by David Reeves president and of SCEE, distributed to Sony staff and forwarded to Develop, details last night’s news about cost-cutting layoffs.

“SCEE has successfully faced a number of challenges throughout its history to be come alead of the video game industry – however our industry is in the middle of a period of transition where some of the fundamentals of our business are changing,” he wrote.

“In order to further our market leadership we sometimes have to make difficult business decisions. The management of the company has concluded that we need to change our structure, streamline and strengthen our business operations – and that our cost base needs to be significantly reduced.”

He goes on to explain that there “will be 160 redundancies in total across SCEE offices in the UK, WWS in Europe and in the territories.”

Reeves was quick to point out that the management is also “committed to taking every possible measure” to minimise and mitigate the effect of any redundancies saying “these are proposals only at this stage” – suggesting that he hopes the company can keep the number of staff lost below the 160-mark.

There is still no official statement from SCEE at this time, but more details are expected to surface in the next few days.
