Ninjas in Pyjamas calls it quits on Overwatch and releases their roster

Ninjas in Pyjamas have released their Overwatch team, less than a month after they pulled the plug on their Dota 2 roster claiming they wanted to focus more on Overwatch, CS:GO and League of Legends.

It seems for the organisations Overwatch roster at least, that dream has been NiPped in the bud. The team, comprised entirely of Finnish players, will continue to participate in the Overwatch Contenders tournament under the name Rest in Pyjamas. They’re a fairly recognisable team in Europe, despite the lack of high level European events for them to compete in.

"As time passed, we have seen a growing amount of teams release their Overwatch lineups as they assess the future of the game as an esports title," Ninjas in Pyjamas said in a statement which can be viewed on their website.

"The scene has not evolved as expected with viewership being below expectations and Blizzard is yet to announce more details surrounding their upcoming Overwatch League."

Fnatic, TSM, Red Reserve, Splyce, Team Dignitas and more have opted out of Overwatch in recent months. Rest in Pyjamas are currently in third place in the Overwatch Contenders group stage, with a win, lose and a draw. They’ll be looking for more wins if they want to attract a new sponsor.
