UK and US earn spots in the Overwatch World Cup top 8, taking place at Blizzcon

The United States and United Kingdom have secured their spots at the Overwatch World Cup main event, taking place from November 3, during Blizzcon.

The US and UK triumphed over Taiwan and Germany in the playoffs, with the UK remaining undefeated in terms of map score, Taiwan failing to score a single point against them as the UK earnt their slot at Blizzcon.

At the event, the US and UK will be facing off against China, France, Sweden, Australia, South Korea and Canada, who qualified at earlier events. The next step is a live random draw which will determine the Overwatch World Cup bracket for the final eight. This draw will take place on August 28 and be streamed everywhere you can usually watch streams.

No doubt both countries, if not seven out of the top eight countries, will be looking to avoid South Korea in the first round. This is a massive boost to the US and UK scenes though, both of which have faced challenges in the face of the Overwatch League, with many believing that OWL teams for London and Los Angeles will be entirely imported.

Cloud 9 today picked up the Laser Kittenz roster, which makes it look like that team will be representing Cloud 9’s London stable, but the signing window hasn’t yet taken place, and as both countries continue to impress, they’re harder to overlook as potential stars.
