Virtus.Pro take out top team FaZe in EPICENTER clash

Virtus.pro have caused the biggest upset of EPICENTER 2017 after knocking out FaZe Clan, currently viewed as the world’s best CS:GO team, to reach the playoffs.

Virtus.Pro went 2-1 against FaZe in a best of three matchup, coming back from behind after losing the first map, Mirage,16-2. While Virtus’ fate seemed sealed after the crushing defeat, the fightback then began in earnest.

Virtus won the next two maps, Cobblestone and Inferno, 16:11 and 16:13 respectively. This is an upset for several reasons.

FaZe has never before been beaten on Inferno, it’s the first time Virtus.Pro has beaten FaZe in the last five matches, stretching all the way back to ECS Season 3. However, despite their win, Virtus.Pro didn’t have a single player with a positive kill/death ratio, with the best player in the match according to HLTV’s statistics, FaZe’s Ladislav ‘GuardiaN’ Kovács was the best player in the map.

The match will buoy a struggling Virtus.Pro, who have been struggling for success in the Counter-Strike scene recently, and a win against this month’s best team in the world is a massive boost to the team.
