Epic shooter Fortnite has reached another milestone, passing the 20m registered players mark.
The success has been spurred by the release of the free-to-play Battle Royale mode, which is available on PC and console.
This total pushes it just ahead of high-profile rival PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, whose owner numbers are hovering around and about the 20m mark. That’s a £26.99 game, of course.
And PUBG continues to post some epic concurrent player numbers – Steamcharts puts its peak in the last 24 hours at 2.36m, with an all-time peak of 2.52m.

Fortnite: Battle Royale recently hit 811,000 concurrent players. The popularity led to some server problems. The game had previously picked up 1m players on its first day and at one stage last month had 3.7m players take part in a single 24-hour period.
Epic has previously clashed with PUBG developer Bluehole about the similarities between the two games.
PUBG players, meanwhile, are still waiting on the anticipated roll-out of the supposedly release version of the game on its test servers. Patch 1.0 will introduce the much-wanted vaulting mechanics players have been crying out for, and will come ahead of the release of the game’s second map in December.
However, despite being scheduled for last week, technical problems caused the development team to put the release on hold, and we’re still without an ETA of when 1.0 will finally arrive in test.
